Client accounting · England & Wales

Client accounting software built around the SRA Accounts Rules.

Every penny in the client account belongs to a client, and the SRA Accounts Rules expect you to prove it three ways at least every five weeks and to a reporting accountant every year. SolicitorOS keeps a client ledger per client and matter that cannot go overdrawn, matches the bank statement, records interest under Rule 7 and assembles the accountant’s report pack in one click.

Free for 7 days · No credit card · One flat price for the whole firm

The SolicitorOS client ledger: firm client balance, the client account and the last reconciliation, with client ledgers per matter below
The client ledger. The firm balance and the sum of client ledgers sit side by side, and the last reconciliation is one glance away. Real screen from the demo workspace every trial opens with.

What SolicitorOS does for client accounting.

Everything below is in the product today and opens on the first day of the trial. No demo, no implementation project.

A client ledger per client, per matter

Receipts, payments, transfers to business and reversals are posted against the client and the matter. The running balance per client is always visible, a payment that would overdraw a client is refused, and every posting carries who captured it and when. The firm-wide balance and the sum of client balances are shown side by side so a difference is caught the day it happens, not at audit.

Bank statement matching

Import the client account bank statement as CSV or OFX. Deposits and payments that match the ledger by amount, date and reference are ticked automatically; the rest are shown for a decision. Matched lines are stamped on the ledger so the five-weekly reconciliation writes itself.

Interest under Rule 7, accounted for

Record the interest the bank paid on client money and SolicitorOS keeps the split between the fair sum due to each client and what the firm retains under its written interest policy, with a schedule the reporting accountant can read and one click to credit a client’s ledger.

A month-end that refuses to let you skip steps

The month-end checklist will not close a period until the three-way reconciliation is done, the interest is recorded and the exceptions are cleared. Closed periods are locked, so nothing back-dates into a reconciled month.

The accountant’s report pack in one click

Your Rule 12.2 position — the average and maximum client money held across the period — with five-weekly reconciliation coverage, overdrawn-ledger exceptions, the interest schedule and dated CSV registers, all assembled on one page for the reporting accountant.

Requests for money on account, and statements

Ask a client for money on account with the account details and the matter reference in a branded email, and show clients what is held for them on their statement and in the client portal. Fewer phone calls, fewer misallocated deposits.

How firms start.

1

Open a workspace

Sign up with an email address. The workspace opens immediately with the demo matter so you can see real screens, not slides.

2

Run one real file

Bring in one live matter and work it for a week: capture, bill, diarise, reconcile. Import clients and matters by CSV when you are ready.

3

Choose a plan

Pick a plan and add a card only when you decide to continue. Nothing you built is lost, and everything exports if you leave.

Questions solicitors ask.

Does SolicitorOS make my client account compliant with the SRA Accounts Rules?

No software can. It gives you the records the rules require — client ledgers that cannot go overdrawn (Rule 5.3), three-way reconciliation on the five-week cadence (Rule 8.3), Rule 7 interest and your Rule 12 report position — and refuses the entries that would breach them. The firm, its managers and its COFA remain responsible.

Can I import my client account bank statement?

Yes. Upload the statement as CSV or OFX from any UK bank. Lines that match the ledger are reconciled automatically and the rest are listed for you to allocate or query.

How is interest on client money handled?

You record the interest the bank paid for the period and say whether the money was in a separate designated deposit account or the general client account. SolicitorOS keeps the client’s fair sum and the firm’s retained share apart, per your written policy, with a schedule you can export.

Can my reporting accountant get what they need without logging in?

Yes. The accountant’s report pack exports every register as dated CSV files, and a read-only auditor link opens the pack without an account.

Is client accounting included in every plan?

The client account is included on every plan, including Solo Solicitor. Pricing is one flat monthly fee for the whole firm.
